Desires of the Self
In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate.\n"And if the Truth had followed their desires, the heavens and the earth and whoever is in them would have been corrupted. But We have brought them their reminder, yet they turn away from their reminder." (Qur’an, Surah Al-Mu’minun, 71)\nThe one enslaved by his own desires is blinded and deafened by them. He sees only what relates to his whims and perceives everything through them, unable to distinguish good from evil or truth from falsehood.\nAs the poet said:\nEverything he saw he thought a cup… Everyone he saw he thought the server.\nEvery person has multiple desires—whether in literature, religion, politics, economics, arts, or social relations.\nYet our society shares a collective desire: an obsession with searching for the causes of our crises and tragedies. This constant focus on pressures and worries breeds continuous tension and lasting depression.\nIs this the only destiny we deserve?\nWe are capable of creating a brighter and more complete reality if we struggle against the selfish desires of the soul and overcome despair and inner fragmentation.
